The impact of weather on your security.

October 15, 2016

Who would've thought that weather had so much impact on your security?! Fact is, it does. When the weather strikes and you are without power, your alarms and cameras go down. This is prime opportunity for criminals to strike.

Having a good backup plan for your electronics and your well being is not only a good idea, but it's a must if you have a young family or high valued items.

Having a UPS (uninterrupted power source) for your DVR/cameras or computers are a must. What good is it to have cameras at home or your place of business if they are not operational? (If you own or maintain a rental property that's miles away from home, it's hard to physically back it up or reboot it if your not there, so a UPS is a must) a generator is a luxury if you can afford it. Running your fridge and the kid's iPads are a must if you want to keep your sanity! You can always go back to board games and that always brings a family closer.

Flashlights are a must for any security company and especially important for those without power. Having a dedicated place for flashlights, candles, water and canned foods is a smart way to combat any weather related incident.

There are some inexpensive battery operated, motion activated lights for the exterior and interior home on Amazon, solar powered work too, but not as well as the battery operated ones. I would suggest getting the rechargeable types.

The list could go on and on, but the important thing to remember here, is safety.

Safety for your family and security for your business. Having a back up plan for any minor or major emergency is the key.

As I write this, WA State is going through a major wind advisory and already a few businesses have lost temporary power, our security teams have a plan in place for these inconveniences, and are still operational at this time.

As always, stay safe and stay dry wherever you might be, I'd love to hear your thoughts and input on this topic. Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter. Have a great weekend everyone, be safe! - Nacho
